Everyone who attended the Clamfest appreciates the excellent and professional
operations that made a very enjoyable day run flawlessly. The thanks go to
the crew that put it all together and did all of the work. The event was so
successful that we picked up six new members during the event, members new to
the American Legion, not transfers. Bob Longmuir, the
Clam Fest leader says: “Thank you to all the Volunteers who helped with the
ClamFest. Without you it would not happen. If there were any complaints, I
didn’t hear them. The Legion and myself - Thank You!”. The people who attended,
and there were a lot of them, echo the thanks to the crew and especially to Bob
Longmuir.
First I would like to say Thank You personally to the family that gave me the check for our Pennies For Postage jug on the night of our Clam Bake. I have been busy sending pkgs and yes it is getting rather costly as not only are we sending to individual troops but also to larger units.
I would like to share a message I received thru Soldiers Angels from one troop to let me know he received his pkg as he has been sending mail stateside but some of it doesn't get thru, and he wanted to make sure I knew he got the pkg from us.
Message as follows:
I have just received a pkg from Soldiers Angels and the person that sent it to me was Rosemary Danielewicz of NY. At my current location, mail is questionable at best as far as sending things home. I have tried 4 letters within the last 4 months and none of them have made it stateside. Either way, I had trouble finding Mrs. Danielewicz's email address but I did want to thank her personally. I hope if it possible, this message finds it's way to her. I am currently the platoon leader of 20 soldier element. Our platoon is very close and in the past 4 months, we have ran over 100 combat patrols. Being that we are such a close platoon, most of our food that comes is communal. I can say without a doubt that the box sent from Mrs. Danielewicz was greatly appreciated. My soldiers enjoyed it very much. We are living in tents at COS Garry Owen and any tastes from home are great.. Mike. P.
I would like to mention Linda Jackson & myself went out to Ft. Drum and dropped off 5 boxes and 1 bag full of goodies and I will tell you, that brought smiles to those troops. We were given a short tour and we found it amazing the things they have ready for our troops when they return as well as for when they are deployed.
They informed us of their needs for toiletries-hotel size , toothpaste, shavers, etc, they said this way things are ready for them when their duffel bags are still being unpacked.
Please help us in any way you can so we in turn can still show our support for our troops.
The
Flag Code
suggests that, "when a flag has served its useful purpose, it should be
destroyed, preferably by burning." For individual citizens, this should be done
discreetly so the act of destruction is not perceived as a protest or
desecration. American Legion Post 787 conduct a semi-annual Disposal of
Unserviceable Flag Ceremony. This ceremony creates a particularly dignified and
solemn occasion for the retirement of unserviceable flags. Drop your old,
tattered or unserviceable flags in the barrel at the front bar entrance of the
Post any time of the year. This service and the ceremonies are open to the
community
