You must have an honorable discharge and served on active duty at least one day sincee 12/7/1941.
Not everyone is eligible
to become a member of the Sons of The American Legion. There are
specific membership requirements.
To be eligible, you must
be a male descendant (includes stepsons and adopted sons) of a
member of The American Legion.
You would also be
eligible to join the Sons of The American Legion if you are the
male descendant (stepsons and adopted sons included) of a
veteran who died subsequent to his or her honorable discharge
from service.

The National Personnel Records Center, Military Personnel
Records. It is the repository of millions of military
personnel, health, and medical records of discharged and
deceased veterans of all services during the 20th century.
Information from the records is made available upon written
request (with signature and date) to the extent allowed by law.
Auxiliary membership is offered to any
woman over
the age of 19 who is an immediate family member of an American
Legion member or a deceased veteran.
Male spouses may now (as of Aug 30, 2019) join the American Legion Auxiliary.
As the world's largest
women's patriotic organization, the American Legion Auxiliary
sponsors volunteer programs on the national and local levels,
focusing on three major areas: veterans, young people and the
community. Through your volunteerism in various programs and
services involving veterans and communities, you can become a
strong leader in your community, have the chance to educate
children and advance the programs of the American Legion
Auxiliary.
Volunteering along side women of all ages and different life
experiences, by giving of your time and heart to the Auxiliary
programs, you will have memories and develop life-long
friendships. Your knowledge will give you the ability to mentor
younger members as they learn life experiences and also as an
adult member. The services provided by the American Legion
Auxiliary directly and indirectly touch the lives of all
Americans.
Eligibility for American
Legion Auxiliary Membership
iving veterans must be current members of the American Legion.
Deceased veterans-the post adjutant must be shown the death certificate and discharge papers.
Eligible veteran relationships are: husband, son, daughter, father, stepfather, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, grandchild.
The qualifying veteran must have served in the armed forces at least one day.
There are two requirements to become an American Legion Rider, Post 787, Cicero, NY (ALR787):
First:
You must be a current member in good standing of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion and
Second:
You must be either the legally registered owner of a motorcycle of at least 500cc engine displacement, (Unless approved by the Sgt-at-Arms), or you must be the legal spouse of an ALR787 member in good standing.
