Baldur’s Gate 3: Rogue Build Guide

While Baldur’s Gate 3 is inspired heavily by Dungeons & Dragons the developers have added certain aspects that made gamers compare it with arguably the best game of all time, The Elder Scroll V Skyrim. This is a very good thing as any RPG that takes notes from Skyrim is bound to have the potential to be great.

The similarities between the two RPGs exist even in character creation and choosing between the best builds. For instance, if you need to pass threats in places like the Arcane Tower then a rogue build should be the build of your choice. The rogue builds have many advantages over the other builds in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Today we will be discussing what a rogue build is in the game and the best rogue build that you can create.

What Is Rogue Build In Baldur’s Gate 3?

A character that can master the art of sneaking and has obtained lightning-fast reflexes due to practice is most probably a rogue. Rogue characters are masters of stealth and can easily sneak past dangerous threats without anyone noticing. They are also very good at picking locks or pockets, disarming traps, and can dual-wield weapons.

These perks of the rogue build might interest you and be of great use in the game when you unlock the full potential of your character. The rogue can easily become an essential member of any team. This can be due to their sneaky nature or their long-range attacks that can be powered up due to their class-exclusive sneak attacks.

The sneak attack significantly boosts the damage and chance to hit the opponent but requires the player to have an advantage over the opponent. The attack can either be melee or ranged and then the bonus will still count. Another advantage of the rogue is the bonus action that allows them to hide, disengage, or dash away from opponents.

The Arcane Trickster, Assassin, and Theif are the 3 subclasses of the rogue build. Each subclass has unique abilities and will be lucrative depending on how the player plans to play the game.

For instance, the arcane trickster grants magical abilities while the assassin is more focused on attacking enemies while sneaking. The thief on the other hand is primarily stealth-oriented and can become unstoppable when a master of sneaking.

The rogue build is best for those who want to either sneak past opponents or deal sneak attacks on them and be able to pick locks and disarm traps. We will be discussing the best rogue build.

Best Rogue Build

Before getting into the nitty-gritty of the best rogue build creation, let us first discuss which subclass is the best and our reasoning behind it. The thief rogue is the best simply due to the extra bonus action it is provided with. Hiding, disengaging, or dashing away from opponents when in a tricky situation is close to impossible to beat.

Additionally, due to their extra bonus action, thief rogues can remain in sneak and be invisible literally all the time. Another benefit that the thief rogue can unlock is the resistance to fall damage. While this may seem like not a big deal it can be useful when a situation calls for it.

Best Race, Background, And Expertise Choice For Rogue Build

The best race you can choose when creating a rogue is the Duergar which provides the ability to go invisible once the player reaches level 5. The Duergar also have the Dwarven and Duergar Resilience that grants them an advantage on saving throws against illusions, charm, paralysis, and poison.

In addition, the darkvision is particularly beneficial for a thief but the Duergar have a negative which is their movement distance reduction. The best background to choose is the Urchin Background which grants proficiency in sleight of hand and stealth.

The rogue can choose expertise twice, once at the time of character creation and again at level 6. It is wise to choose stealth and persuasion at the time of character creation and insight and sleight of hand at level 6.
