What Is The Hunter Class in World of Warcraft?

First things first, what even is the Hunter class in World of Warcraft? As the name suggests, characters in this class excel in skills and abilities that are related to the outdoors. We’re talking about taming animals, using bows, and similar in tune with nature features.

Hunters have three talent specializations: Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, and Survival. Depending on which talent you use, your Hunter character’s playstyle can differ greatly from that of a different character.

Therefore, it’s crucial that you not only have the right abilities for your character but you also have the right talent builds that help your character play the way you want them to.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Hunter class is purely DPS-based. This means that every rune and build someone goes for is used with the purpose of increasing the overall damage dealt by their character. What this means is that if you’re someone who prefers to play support or some other role that doesn’t deal damage then this might not be the class for you.

Hunter DPS Melee Build

First of all, we’ll go through a melee build for your Hunter character. We understand that this may be a little unorthodox, but nothing beats getting a couple of good shots in the enemy and then going out to hit the occasional ranged skill.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that the only talent that can increase melee damage for your character by level 25 is Savage Strikes, since it gives us a 20% increased Critical Strike Chance on Raptor Strike & Mongoose Bite. Therefore, if you’re of a lower level, then this will be crucial to ensuring your character is battle-ready.

On the other hand, we also have to go with some talents that won’t give us damage but will instead increase our defense to ensure our character can take more hits. Survivalist and Deterrence are some good defensive options, or you can opt to focus on your pets instead to either increase their damage or how many hits they can take.

Finally, although this is a melee build, that doesn’t mean you won’t use ranged attacks at all. This is why talents like Improved Aspect of the Hawk and Lethal Shots do have some value here.

Hunter DPS Ranged Build

It’s now time to go through a DPS ranged build, which is what most players playing with a Hunter character are likely to use. The one we’ve chosen revolves around getting the final Beast Mastery talent, Bestial Wrath, as it has the potential to turn your pet into an unstoppable force.

Naturally, you have to pair them with other talents too, like Ferocity, a talent that will increase your mana return while giving your pets more potential to deal damage. Pair it up with other ranged abilities and talents like Arcane Shot and Serpent Sting, and we have no doubt you’ll be a force to be reckoned with in no time.
