Will Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth ever come to PC?
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, was released on February 29, 2024, to great acclaim from fans and critics alike. However, the game is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, meaning players from others can’t play it until they buy Sony’s console. So, does this mean the game won’t find its way to PC and Xbox? Well, not necessarily.
In this article, we will look at Final Fantasy 7’s chances on PC, and if it will even come. If it does, when? We’ll also discuss whether the game can launch on other platforms.

Will Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth ever come on PC?
We think it a PC release is likely because FF7 Rebirth’s predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake also got a PC port 22 months after the original’s release.
While there isn’t any official confirmation, there’s a good chance for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to launch on PC sooner than later. The thing is that Square Enix and PlayStation probably have an exclusivity deal for Final Fantasy 7 games, and for FF7 Rebirth, it lasts til 29 May 2024. At the end of every trailer for the game, there’s a disclaimer that reads “*Not Available on other formats until at least 05.29.2024”
This date could indicate that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth can come to other platforms on 30 May 2024 at minimum. Even if the ports don’t launch by then, players can, at the very least, expect an official announcement from the developers for the game’s ports once this period is over. One thing worth noting is that FF7 Rebirth’s exclusivity period is much shorter than FF7 Remake’s, so there’s a chance that Rebirth might get a launch sooner in comparison.
One final thing we need to mention is that more AAA games, even exclusives, have been seeing PC ports nowadays. PlayStation Studio titles, like Helldivers 2, have seen PC and PS5 launches at the same time, and the company is planning more day-one simultaneous launches in the future, indicating that a PC release might be out sooner than expected.
Will Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth come to other platforms?
For the bigger question, will Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth make its way to other consoles like the Xbox Series X|S or the Nintendo Switch? Currently, Square Enix hasn’t announced any plans to bring the game to other platforms, and honestly? We feel like there’s a low chance of that happening since Final Fantasy 7 Remake never got an Xbox or a Switch release.
Although Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth hasn’t been developed for other platforms, it may have been a good thing for the game. Final Fantasy franchise producer Yoshinori Kitase stated in an interview that developing the game exclusively for the PS5 was the “key” to making the game a success at launch. He also stated that developing the title for other consoles may have resulted in a “regressive” game design and that the game wouldn’t have been as good as it could’ve been.
Is any other Final Fantasy game coming to Xbox?
All hope’s not last if you’re an Xbox player because the MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, will finally launch for the Xbox Series X|S consoles on March 21, 2024, and not only that, it’ll be available to play if you’ve subscribed to the Xbox Game Pass. However, the slight issue is that the version available on the subscription is just a trial, and players will only be able to play the base game and the first two expansions only, and that too for just 30 days.
And that concludes everything we know regarding Final Fantasy 7’s Rebirth’s future on other platforms. To summarize, FF7 Rebirth’s Sony exclusivity ends on 29 May 2024, and after that, there’s a good chance for the title to make its way onto PC. As for Xbox users, chances may be slimmer, but at least Final Fantasy 14 is launching there. I’ve been playing games since before I could walk, thanks to my introduction of Spider-Man 2 in the family PC. It led me to more gaming experiences which in turn led me to discovering all types of genres. My favorite types of games are open-world exploration titles, and I can prove it through my save file of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
